Riddle solutions
and answers.

Thanks for visiting our stand at Polyclose 2026. If you want the logic behind the puzzles, everything is laid out below in the same clean format as the rest of the site.

How to read this page

A simple structure for
three classic puzzles.

Each section keeps the same rhythm: the question, why the logic works, and the short answer you can remember later.

Riddle 01

Knights &
Knaves.

Ask either guard which door the other guard would point to, then take the opposite path.

The question

Ask either guard the following

If I were to ask the other guard which door leads to freedom, which door would they point to?

Why it works

Truth and lies cancel each other out

If you ask the Knight, the answer reports the Knave's lie. If you ask the Knave, the answer is still a lie about the Knight's truthful choice. In both cases, the result points to the wrong door.

The conclusion

Choose the opposite door

No matter which guard you ask, they indicate the door to doom. The correct move is to take the other door, which must lead to freedom.

Riddle 02

The Monty Hall
Problem.

It feels like a coin toss, but the odds are not equal once one door has been opened.

Monty Hall puzzle
The answer

Switching improves the odds

Your original choice stays at 1 in 3. When the host opens a losing door, the remaining unopened door carries the other 2 in 3.

Why it works

The host reveals information

The key is that the opened door is not random noise. The reveal tells you something useful, and that extra information shifts the probability toward the unopened door.

The conclusion

Always switch

Staying wins 1/3 of the time. Switching wins 2/3 of the time. If you want the better odds, swap doors.

Riddle 03

The Lightbulb
Room.

Use heat and light states to identify each switch in a single visit.

The strategy

Turn one switch on, then move on

Leave Switch A on long enough to warm its bulb, turn it off, then turn on Switch B and leave Switch C off.

Why it works

Each bulb ends up in a different state

One bulb is lit, one is warm, and one remains cool and dark. That gives you enough information to match every switch to every bulb in one visit.

The conclusion

Light, heat and cold are the clues

The bulb that is warm belongs to the first switch, the bulb that is lit belongs to the second, and the bulb that is dark and cool belongs to the third.
