Our story · Since 2005

Engineering what
should have existed.

CiiLOCK is an Australian-owned engineering and manufacturing company built around original hardware, practical problem-solving and a refusal to let accepted compromises become permanent.

The CiiLOCK story

Twenty years of asking
what could work better.

The story begins in 2005 and follows the same thread through manufacturing, original hardware, Door Motion Systems, international expansion and specialist testing: get close to the problem, understand the mechanics and take responsibility for making the answer real.

The Beginning

CiiLOCK wasn’t born as a business plan. It was born as a rebellion.

It grew from engineers comparing stories from the field and repeatedly finding the same thing: capable manufacturers and installers were being held back by small mechanical compromises that had become normal. CiiLOCK was created to get into those overlooked details and build the solutions that should have been there in the first place.

That instinct — challenge the accepted answer, then take responsibility for engineering a better one — became the foundation for everything that followed.

Anchoring Our Ambitions

The first CiiLOCK facility in Hallam gave the idea somewhere practical to grow. Early work focused on custom polymer mouldings: small components embedded deep inside larger systems, but often critical to how those systems performed.

The lesson arrived early. Designing the shape was only part of the job. Tooling, material flow, cooling, post-processing, inspection, stock and reliable supply all affected the result. Manufacturing therefore became part of the engineering process rather than something handed off at the end.

Setting New Standards

CiiLOCK made an early commitment not to fill shelves with “me-too” hardware. A new part needed to solve a genuine problem: easier installation, better adjustment, stronger load paths, greater reliability, cleaner integration or simply a better experience for the person using the finished product.

Listening closely to fabricators and installers created a growing stream of targeted hardware ideas. Some were modest components. The important test was whether they removed a real source of friction.

Engineering is Our Sport

Engineering became part discipline, part competition and part play. Internal challenges, physical experiments and rapid prototypes encouraged the team to test assumptions instead of inheriting them.

Useful innovation rarely appears fully formed. It is built through trying, measuring, breaking, learning, changing the geometry and going again. That energy remains part of how CiiLOCK works.

A Shift in the Market:
The Mother of All Rollers

As sliding panels became larger and heavier, conventional roller arrangements exposed familiar weaknesses: uneven load sharing, concentrated forces, track sensitivity and operating effort that rose with panel mass.

CiiLOCK pursued a different architecture, taking inspiration from the way an arch distributes load. The development project was given an intentionally oversized internal name — Mother of All Rollers — because the engineering target was equally ambitious. The nickname survived the prototypes and became the product name.

The Art of Door Motion

Once more of the everyday component problems had been solved, the questions became systemic. A door is not a roller, lock or track in isolation. Load, alignment, friction, sealing, locking and human effort all interact.

CiiLOCK increasingly worked at that system level — engineering the hardware relationships that determine how an opening starts moving, carries weight, aligns, closes, locks and feels in the hand. Door Motion Systems became one of the company’s deepest fields of expertise.

Our New Home

A purpose-built facility on Technology Circuit in Hallam brought engineering, prototyping, testing, manufacturing support and fulfilment closer together. It was infrastructure designed around the way CiiLOCK was learning to develop products.

With practical development and testing capability on site, ideas could move through build, evidence and iteration far more quickly. Validation was no longer something reserved for the end of the process.

Global Expansion

Demand increasingly arrived from outside Australia. The same engineering model began travelling into new markets through CiiLOCK operations and specialist partners, bringing the company closer to manufacturers in the United Kingdom, China, South Africa and other regions.

The goal was more than geography. It was to preserve the ability to respond directly to unusual applications even as the customer base became international.

UK Grand Opening

The first UK branch opened in Hinckley in 2013, giving CiiLOCK a direct presence in a mature fabrication market with demanding hardware applications and a strong appreciation for practical engineering.

It was the first major step in turning an Australian engineering business into a genuinely international operation.

Beyond Just Windows & Doors

Windows and doors remain a rich source of mechanical challenges, but they have never defined CiiLOCK’s outer boundary. The same approach has moved into truck side curtains, operable walls, cubicles, partitions and specialised mechanisms.

The common thread is mechanical rather than categorical: movement, load, locking, repetition, manufacturability and a need for something better than the accepted answer.

China Expansion

CiiLOCK China was established with local manufacturing and sales capability, placing the company inside one of the world’s major manufacturing ecosystems. That proximity strengthened tooling development, supplier collaboration, industrialisation and supply across multiple markets.

The operation added scale without changing the underlying expectation: engineering detail and repeatable quality still had to travel with the product.

Quality Milestone

ISO 9001 certification formalised a quality-management discipline that had grown with the business. Reliable hardware depends on controlled processes, traceability, inspection and repeatability — not merely checking the final component once production is complete.

Investing In Excellence

The engineering toolkit continued to expand through 3D modelling, simulation, rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing, dedicated test equipment and increasingly connected digital systems.

The purpose is not technology for its own sake. Each investment is useful when it shortens the distance between an idea, a physical prototype, evidence and a product that can be manufactured reliably.

Ideas Worth Protecting

Original roller assemblies, locking technologies, track systems, manufacturing aids and other mechanisms have been protected across Australia and international markets.

The number is useful evidence of a broader habit: CiiLOCK has repeatedly developed mechanical ideas different enough to warrant protection, rather than limiting innovation to cosmetic changes around familiar products.

Flagship UK Facility

The UK operation moved into a purpose-built Stafford facility in 2020, strengthening local manufacturing, distribution and customer support. It marked the next stage of a UK presence that had begun seven years earlier in Hinckley.

NATA Accreditation

In-house testing had long been part of CiiLOCK’s development process. Achieving NATA laboratory accreditation in 2021 expanded that capability into formal independent testing, including system-level window and door performance work.

What began as a way to prove and improve CiiLOCK products ultimately developed into the specialist laboratory business now known as SIIGMATIC Testing Laboratories ↗.

First Showroom

The Melbourne showroom created a place to experience the engineering rather than only read about it. Movement, operating effort, locking feel and hardware integration make considerably more sense when a complete opening can be used, compared and discussed in person.

For fabricators, architects and product teams, it made the invisible mechanics tangible.

Engineering The Future

Better systems do not appear by waiting for the market to settle. Panels become larger, expectations rise, materials change, manufacturing becomes more connected and customers ask hardware to do more while visually doing less.

CiiLOCK continues to build for the fabricators who want more precision, the architects who want greater freedom and the industries that have reached the limit of “the way it has always been done”. The technologies will change; the job remains familiar — see the problem early enough and engineer a better answer.

CiiLOCK today

One engineering company.
Several specialist platforms.

The story has widened since the original timeline was written. Mother of All Rollers remains a flagship sliding-door technology; TITAN develops bonded-sash and top-hung doorware; VOLTA applies user-controlled power assistance to sliding panels; PIVOTRON focuses CiiLOCK hinge and pivot development; and Bespoke Manufacture carries the same engineering discipline into customer-specific products and other industries.

Door motion is still a major speciality. It is no longer the boundary of the business.
